As most of you know we love our Christian Music and when we found out that some of our faves (TobyMac, MercyMe and Zach Williams) were all playing together we just had to go! There was not really a date that was near us so we decided lets go somewhere we have never been so we landed on Buffalo NY! Why? Why not! I had seen Niagra Falls years ago from a distance and Phil had never seen them so we booked our rooms at Niagra on the Canadian side and we were ready to go. One day as we were planning the trip we asked if there was anything else in NY State we would want to see while we were there and immediately we thought of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Only 3 hours from Buffalo and seemed like a perfect end to a great trip. We flew into Buffalo and thought we must try “Buffalo Wings” while we were in Buffalo of course and needless to say we were VERY dissapointed, the wings were dry and hardly any meat on them and the price was just stupid…..but hey we did it. Dont need to do that again. We drove the first night over to Niagra (about 30 minutes) and crossed the border to check into our hotell. We decided that night even though cold we wanted to walk down to the falls to check them out. We were absolutely blown away by the Falls, the power and beauty of it was just amazing. There were lots of decorations for Christmas and with the colder weather it was just perfect. We could see the falls even from our room and could not stop watching them.
Day 2 we went back to the Falls and did a think called “Journey to the Falls” which brought us down into a tunnel behind the falls that was built back in the early 1900’s. Wow – so much power! We also did a thing called the Fury of the Falls which talked about how they were formed….although I got soaked it was a cool experience. That evening we headed back to Buffalo for our concert which was held at the Sabre hockey Arena. It was 3 full hours of unbelievable worship and praise! We loved meeting the folks around us and realizing whether Texas or NY – we all just love our savior!
Day 3 – It was time to make the drive to Cooperstown to see the Baseball Hall of Fame. But at breakfast our waitress told us about some great wineries in the area so of course we had to stop. We found that Wayne Gretzky has a winery and given we are huge hockey fans that seemed like the perfect stop. We found that not only did they make wine but also whiskey and this yummy whiskey creme! We sampled it all and did a tour before hopping on the road to enjoy the beautiful NY State countryside. We stayed at a place called the Cooperstown Inn that was built in 1874 and was a wonderful old B&B.
Day 4 – was the day of Mecca! We were absolutely blown away by the Baseball Hall of Fame, so much phenomenal information, great exhibits and the docents were fans and you could tell, they loved helping us learn. There was even an amazing film production done that brought tears to both of our eyes! We spent the WHOLE day there reading, enjoying the history and soaking up all of the baseball love. We also took a drive over to a lovely brewery, had a snack and just enjoyed experiencing this great little town that was so perfectly quaint and historical. What a day!!!! Tomorrow we head home but Cooperstown you did not dissapoint.
