Our second day in Madrid started with our new fave of a chocolate croissant! Then off to site see some things we missed yesterday. Our first stop was the El Retiro Park which up until 1868 beloged to the Spanish Monarchy but then turned into a pubic park with smal lake where you can rent a little row boat. Phil flew his drone there because it was not too crowded and lots of open space. Next we headed to the royal palace where there are 3,400 rooms and only used for official ceremonies. the royal family no longer lives there. Directly across from the palace is the Cathedral la Almudena construction began in 1883 but was not consecrated by the pope until 1993. Phil opted to sit outside while I went in and I must have climbed 100 stairs to see the dome and a view of the city from the top and then back down to the cathedral itself to see the dome from below, it is beautiful. of course we needed to take our usual afternoon nap and then we had dinner at Botin which is the world’s oldest restaurant certified by Guinness Book of World Records as opening in 1725. Our waiter has worked there for 32 years! Phil had the suckling pig and I had a filet and they were both AMAZING, after eating we went down to the wine cellar where there are some unbelievably old wine bottles still there! Tomorrow we head by train down to Valencia – more to come!

As always, great pictures! i love to go with you on this trip.
