Today was a tough and sobering day. Today we finished our time in Budapest by visiting the House of Terror Museum. This building was used by the Hungarian Nazi party called the Arrow Cross party and then became the home of the Communist party at the end of WWII. The number of people that were killed by this two regimes is frightening and even more so the number tortured and killed in that very building was disturbing. We were just shocked to hear the final Soviet soldier left in 1991, it was hard for us to imagine these nightmares occurring for so long in one place. After the museum we went over to the “shoes” on the Danube that showed bronzed shoes where Jews were simply walked to the rivers edge, asked to step out of their shoes and then shot and tossed in the river. We are so truly blessed to have never known such evil personally. Tough day, traveling to Vienna and touring there tomorrow.

Very sobering!
