Today was our first full day in Europe and we chose the WWII tour off of the ship for today. Hitler started as early as the 1920’s to position Nuremberg as the primary focus of the Nazi Party (National Socialist Party) given its central location and industry of building munitions and tanks. From 1933-1938 Hitler held his rallies here where over 1M people would travel to hear their propaganda. We visited the Congress Hall which was actually never finalized that would have held more rallies and positioned Hitler based on the sunlight like he was from Heaven. We also went around the lake to see Zeolin field which is where his actual rallies were held. It was somewhat creepy standing where you had seen videos of Hitler up on the podium and thousands of troops marching. We finished our day at the International Tribunal Cormier was held to try 21 leaders of the Nazi party, courtroom 600. There was a well done video of examples since then that trial like this have been necessary, like the Uganda mass genecide, Serbia and even discussed Russia and Ukraine. They have done a good job of remembering without glorifying the tragedies that occurred here. Back on the boat we are headed for Regensberg and have so far gone through 5 locks which are always fascinating! Ready for tomorrow after a good nights sleep cruising on the Danube!
